Other staff:

The STEMS RU, in a broader sense and in collaboration with other colleagues, deals with a range of topics, some of which are:

  • Production of energy from renewable sources, residual biomasses and wastes
  • Characterization of the flammability and explosivity parameters of materials
  • Energy production
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Safety
  • Design and modelling of chemical reactors and plants
  • Fluidized beds pyrolysis and gasification of plastics and residual biomasses
  • Thermochemical energy storage from renewable sources

An example list of equipment available at STEMS follows:

  • 3 MW fluidized bed combustor
  • 50 kW fluidized bed gasifier
  • Compartmented deep pseudo two-dimensional fluidized bed (1.2 cubic meters)
  • Megaris bubbling fluidized beds combustor
  • Directly irradiated fluidized bed reactor equipped with both a conventional thermal heating systems full power of 5 kW, and a concentrated solar simulator that irradiates the upper fluidized bed surface with a peak flux of 3 MW m−2 and a total power of 3 kWth.
  • STR cylindrical steel reactor, 5 L, 400 bar and 350°C ATEX/PED certified
  • 4 L tubular steel PFR reactor, 400 bar and 350°C ATEX/PED certified
  • Mechanical workshop
  • Chemical laboratory
