CNR will participate to the project with the effort of the Institute of Sciences and Technologies for Sustainable Energy and Mobility (STEMS). STEMS is the main Italian research institute operating in the sector of renewable energy and sustainable mobility. STEMS cooperates with almost all the major national companies in the energy, automotive, mechanical and transport sectors, and various foreign multinationals. In 2003 he received PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II. In 2018, he has got the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor in Chemical Plants. He works in the field of chemical reaction engineering, combustion, gasification and pyrolysis of solid fuels, and process technology of granular solids. His research interests are mainly related to: 1) combustion, gasification and pyrolysis of high-volatile solid fuels (e.g. biomass, sewage sludge) in fluidized bed reactors; 2) hydrodynamics of bubbling, circulating and multiple interconnected fluidized beds; 3) hydrodynamics of entrained-flow slagging gasifiers of solid fuels; 4) development of novel configurations of multiple fluidized bed systems finalized to chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling; 5) development of novel configurations of fluidized beds finalized to the conversion of concentrated solar energy into electric and thermal energy, and\/or materials (chemical storage, solar fuels). Dr. Massimo Urciuolo's current research activities, both modeling and experimental, are mainly related to the fields of combustion, gasification and pyrolysis, environmental engineering and fluidized bed technology by a significant experience in managing both lab-scale and pilot-scale experimental facilities. In particular, fluidized bed reactors for energy and material production from fossil and alternative solid fuels; fate of solid particulates generated by combustion of carbonaceous solids; combustion\/gasification\/pyrolysis of: biomass, waste and civil and industrial sludge; innovative solutions for the distributed cogeneration from renewable sources. His research interests are mainly related to: 1) thermal conversion of high-volatile solid fuels (e.g. biomass, waste materials) in fluidized bed reactors; 2) capture and utilization of CO2 through the use of Ca-based sorbents; 3) reactivation and reuse of waste materials; 4) development of novel configurations of multiple fluidized bed systems for chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling; 5) technical-economic analysis and environmental impact analysis of innovative processes; 6) machine learning techniques in the field of chemical engineering. In 2005 she received PhD in Chemical Engineering at University of Naples Federico II. She has undertaken scientific responsibilities in the field of combustion, pyrolysis, biomass and waste uses. Member of the scientific committee of IconBM; Invited speaker in many workshops and schools. Tutoring and supervision of graduating and PhD students. Reviewer of many ISI scientific journals. She holds a degree in Chemistry (New strategies for solid phase synthesis of oligonucleotides, University of Naples \u201cFederico II\u201d, 2000)) and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (Evaluation and characterization of fine particulates (&lt; 100 nm) produced from controlled combustion sources, University of Naples \u201cFederico II\u201d, 2004). Her research work is gathered in the areas of <strong>Materials Science and Energy &amp; Environment<\/strong> and include the synthesis of new low-cost carbon-based materials and composites (including MOF) for energy applications (CO2 capture and storage, water remediation, bio-inspired interfaces, biomasses and end-of-life materials valorization into value-added products). These research activities are highly inter- or multidisciplinary, spanning the fields of engineering, chemistry and physics. Beside the coordination and participation at many national and international research projects and the collaboration with several research centers both International and National, she is also active in research networking as member of scientific societies (including COST Actions), as Editorial Board Member of indexed journals and in outreach activities. Her research activities deal with: i) the synthesis and characterization of advanced materials (mainly carbon-rich materials, hybrid materials, metal organic frameworks) for CO2 capture, gas storage and water remediation, ii) the characterization and treatment of pyrolysis feedstocks and products, iii) the chemico-physical analysis of complex carbonaceous materials (commercial materials or derived from thermoconversion processes). She is involved in national and international research projects. She has been a visiting researcher at various national and international universities and research centers. She carries out teaching activities promoted by STEMS-CNR and outreach activities at regional and national events. She is a member of several COST Actions. She is a member of the Editorial Board of 4 MDPI journals. She has served as guest editor for different article collections. She is a reviewer for many Elsevier, Springer and MDPI journals. His main scientific activities deal with: 1) thermochemical solar energy storage processes; 2) biomass thermo-conversion processes (e.g., pyrolysis, gasification, hydrothermal liquefaction); 3) purification of gaseous streams from pollutants and greenhouse agents (e.g., carbon dioxide); 4) liquid-solid and gas-solid adsorption processes; 5) synthesis of innovative\/eco-sustainable binders; 6) re-use of solid wastes of different nature; 7) chemical processes in fluidised bed reactors; 8) design and modelling of chemical reactors and plants, with related transport phenomena; 9) fractal dynamics in heterogeneous processes.\u00a0He is author of about 400 scientific papers, about 170 of which appeared on international peer-reviewed Journals, and 4 of which appeared as a chapter on international scientific Textbooks. His \u201cHirsch index\u201d is 40 and his articles have received about 4600 citations. He is Component of the Expert Panel MUR PNR 2021-2027. He was the President of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School of UNINA (2013-2019), the Dean of the School of Engineering (2010-2013), the Director of CNR-IRC (2008-2010). Author of international patents, more than two hundred papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, seminars and numerous conference presentations. Member of the Editorial Board of renowned international Journals relevant to the fields of Chemical Engineering, Combustion, Powder and Fluid-particle technology, Industrial Biotechnology as well as of qualified International Conferences. In 2022 he has got the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor in Chemical Plants. Maurizio Troiano is member of the editorial board for the international open access journal Frontiers in Energy Research.
